Strong to borderline severe thunderstorms are possible areawide Thursday evening, but severe weather is becoming less likely.
A cold front will trigger storms in north-central Kansas during the afternoon hours and then push the storms to our area by early evening. Wind and hail are the main concerns, with an isolated tornado unlikely but possible northwest of Emporia. All area counties are currently in a marginal severe weather risk for Thursday night.
Before the severe weather risk develops, increasing wind speeds will elevate the fire danger areawide. Chase and Greenwood counties are in a wind advisory from 12-7 pm, but wind gusts could be as high as 40-45 mph areawide.

A cold front will trigger storms in north-central Kansas during the afternoon hours and then push the storms to our area. Damaging wind appears to be the most likely risk, with borderline severe hail, an isolated tornado and brief heavy rain also possible.
Areas north of a Cassoday-Madison-Burlington line are in a slight risk. Areas south of that line are in a marginal risk for severe activity Thursday.
