An Overland Park man received minor injuries after a semi tipped over in east Emporia Friday morning.
The accident prompted a response by Lyon County Deputies, Emporia/Lyon County EMS and the Kansas Department of Transportation to the East US Highway 50 northbound onramp to Interstate 35 just before 10 am. According to Lyon County Deputy Jody Meyers, 36-year-old Samuel Mekonnen of Overland Park was traveling on Sixth Street in a 2014 Volvo Semi with a trailer and was in the process of making a right-hand turn onto the on ramp when the truck overturned for unknown reasons.
Mekonnen was treated at the scene of the accident for minor injuries but did not require a trip to the hospital. Mekonnen was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The on-ramp was closed for a time as the semi was uprighted and removed from the scene.
