Flint Hills Technical College President Dr. Caron Daugherty has unveiled plans for a future plan related to potential expansion of the college’s current facilities and programs.
During the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas Board meeting Friday Daugherty announced the college’s Board of Trustees recently approved the development of a new master plan set to lay out future expansions for facilities and programming down the road. Daugherty says the plan will take a look at much more than just the current needs of the college, it will also factor in what the college’s identity could be within five to 10 years from now.
As part of the approval Monday, the college is now working with Ben Moore Architect and Josh Walker of Lloyd Builders to conduct a facilities assessment which is currently scheduled to take place over the next 60 days.
For its part, the RDA is highly committed to supporting FHTC in any way that it can when it comes to future expansion. That’s according to RDA President Chuck Scott who spoke with KVOE News Friday afternoon.
Scott says the college is instrumental in keeping current businesses strong with qualified workers who graduate from its various programs. He adds, FHTC is also an enticing asset to have when it comes to recruiting future businesses to the area.
Daugherty says the current timeline will have the master plan being finalized by February of next year.
In other business Friday, the RDA received its regular committee reports and an update on expirations for board appointees. The RDA will reconvene for its regular monthly meeting in November.
