For the 20th time in 28 seasons, Kansas was picked to win the 2023-24 Big 12 men’s basketball championship. The Big 12 Conference released the preseason polls on Friday. The Jayhawks received 12 of 14 possible first place votes from the league’s coaches and were followed by Houston. The Cougars, making their debut in the league, received the other two first place votes. Kansas State was picked sixth.

Two Jayhawks were named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team. Hunter Dickinson is the conference’s Preseason Player of the Year and the Preseason Newcomer of the Year after transferring from Michigan. Dejuan Harris Jr. joins him on the first team. Kevin McCullar Jr. was honorable mention as was Tylor Perry of Kansas State.
