Thanks to the Eastside Community Group, those who entered the Lee Beran Recreation Center hungry on Saturday certainly did not leave the same way.
The group once again held its bi-annual fish fry fundraiser which offered residents a great meal for a great deal. For just $10 individuals were served up freshly fried fish, spaghetti, coleslaw, cornbread, corn on the cob, dessert, and a drink.
Lead organizer Al Slappy was one of many manning the fryers Saturday and took a moment to speak with KVOE News about the event. He says the fish fry is a great opportunity to build a stronger sense of community both amongst individual residents and other local groups and organizations.
All proceeds from the fish fry will go to support the group’s mission of continued upkeep and beautification of Eastside Memorial Park as well as its scholarship program which restarted last year following a three-year hiatus. Slappy says the scholarship program provides $300 each for two students a year.
Slappy says when it comes to qualifying for the scholarship, an individual’s actions within the community is just as important as their grade-point average.
Fundraising totals are pending. For more information on the Eastside Community Group find them on Facebook.
