The Emporia State community was welcomed to the 2023-24 basketball season at Late Night at White at White Auditorium on Monday night. Hornet fans got their first look at the men’s and women’s teams which were introduced on the concourse of the arena. Peyton Rogers-Schmidt won the dunk contest while Faith Paramore ended a men’s basketball winning streak over the ladies in the 3-point contest. She said she was motivated by the men’s head coach at MIAA Basketball Media Days in Kansas City last week.
New women’s head Brian Ostermann said it was great to be welcomed by the home fans.
Men’s head coach Craig Doty was pleased with the night, even if his team’s defense wasn’t up to his normal standards.
First-year Hornet Solomon Oraegbu appreciated the crowd’s warm welcome.
The women return to action with a scrimmage against Northwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday at White Auditorium. The scrimmage is open to the public and begins at 4:00 p.m. The men are prepping for their lone exhibition game November 1 at Kansas State. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with tipoff at 7:00 on Mix 104.9.
