The C of E Park pond was the place for a poignant ceremony Sunday evening.
Newman Regional Health held its Wave of Light Remembrance Ceremony for pregnancy loss and miscarriage. Nursing Director Heather Aylward says the ceremony, initially suggested by a nurse who had lost a baby, had several goals in mind.
Depending on the source, research indicates anywhere from 10-30 percent of pregnancies end in miscarriage. A much smaller percentage end in stillbirths, but over 20,000 babies in the US are stillborn.
Sunday’s ceremony included a talk from Jenny Losada, who had a son pass away less than a week after birth, as well as a display of names submitted for the ceremony and a chance to float tealights on the pond. About 15 people attended.
