The Peyton Street waterline improvement project has adjusted traffic flow for several businesses on East 12th Avenue.
East 12th is closed to thru traffic between Lakeview and Topeka for the next two weeks, weather permitting. This means drivers need to go eastbound to have access to businesses near Topeka Street, including Express Tire and Auto. For access to Dillons, drivers will need to be going westbound.
Peyton Street, meanwhile, is southbound only for thru traffic from 12th to Sixth.
Residents wanting to avoid the construction area altogether will have to go to Ninth.
This is part of the early work on the nearly $2.4 million project to improve waterline service from the East 12th Avenue water tower to the Warren Way tower near Industrial Park III. Construction goes from the East 12th tower east to Peyton and south to East Sixth to connect to earlier construction between Sixth and South. Construction will resume at South and Peyton, connecting to the southeast water tower near Carter Street.
