Emporia High senior Laney Cooper will be making her second trip to the state gymnastics meet.
However, last year, she was unable to compete and was determined to make it back on her final try.
Cooper qualified for three events, vault, bars, and floor. She will be the lone Emporia High representative when the state gymnastics meet takes place on Saturday in Newton.
Emporia High has not competed since September 30 when it traveled to Shawnee Mission West for a meet. Cooper says it’s been difficult to practice by herself knowing she had a chance to qualify for state.
Cooper already has a heads-up on the competition, knowing she’s competed against other state qualifiers throughout the season.
Cooper says she has some lofty goals for her final high school gymnastics meet.
The state gymnastics meet begins at 10 a.m. at Newton High School. Cooper will compete in floor first, followed by vault, and conclude with bars. Fans who can’t make it to Newton can watch the meet on the NFHS Network.
