Five area cross country teams and four area individuals have qualified for their respective classes’ state meets on Saturday.
In the Class 1A regional at Sabetha, the Northern Heights girls qualified for state as a team winning the regional championship. Northern Heights had two of the top three finishers. Ellei McCrory won the regional with a time of 18:53.92. Josie Tiffany was third with a time of 21:56.52.
The Northern Heights boys qualified for state as a team with a third place finish with 101. Cooper Hamlin was the top finisher for the Wildcats finishing seventh with a time of 18:15.57. Lebo’s Caleb Durst won the regional with a time of 17:08.60. The Olpe boys qualified for state finishing fourth. Olpe’s Kaleb Arnold led the Eagles with a third-place finish in the regional with a time of 17:24.65
Madison’s Lily Hudson qualified for state in the 1A regional held in Wichita. Hudson finished ninth with a time of 22:45.60.
In the Class 2A regional at Council Grove, the Chase County boys qualified for state as a team winning the regional by four points over Jefferson County North. Silus Hernandez won the individual regional championship with a time of 17:16.20. Carson Schroer was third with a time of 17:40.59. Tate Morgan finished seventh with a time of 18:38.01.
Chase County’s Sadie Mushrush qualified for state with a seventh-place finish with a time of 22:03.49.
In the Class 3A regional at Council Grove, the Osage City girls qualified for state with a third place finish. Emory Speece led the Lady Indians with a third-place finish with a time of 19:47.48. Jaiton Bosse was sixth with a time of 20:31.57.
Council Grove’s Jadyn Picolet qualified for state on the boys side with a 10th place finish and a time of 17:22.68.
Classes 1A and 2A will compete at state at Wamego Country Club, while Class 3A will be at Rim Rock Park outside of Lawrence.
