A special clothing pickup event at Emporia High School went extremely well.
Area residents went to the school’s main parking lot and were waiting for student Jayda Rightmire and family members to begin unboxing donations collected the past few weeks. Rightmire and Amanda Nuckolls, a local clothing store owner, were both pleasantly stunned by the turnout.
Nuckolls decided to close her store and was looking for ways to help community residents. Rightmire suggested the clothing giveaway and has been collecting clothes for several weeks.
Besides giving residents a chance to pick up clothes free of charge, the event let residents donate funds for SOS. Leftover clothing will be distributed among several nonprofits.
Rightmire is also planning a prom dress giveaway early next year. Final plans have not been announced.
