Emporia State junior outside hitter Sandora Sasaki has been named the MIAA Volleyball Hitter of the Week for the third time this season. Sasaki blasted a career-high 32 kills last Tuesday against Fort Hays State on the way to averaging 5.8 kills per set last week. The 32 kills set a new program record in the Lady Hornets’ NCAA Division II era. Sasaki had 20 kills in a sweep of Missouri Southern on Friday before adding another 18 in a five-set loss to Central Missouri on Saturday. Sasaki has registered double-digit kills in 21-straight matches to open the season and her ESU career. It’s the longest stretch by a Lady Hornet since Arica Shepard pulled it off in the final 28 matches of the 2009 season. It is the most double-digit kill matches to open a season by a Lady Hornet since the NCAA moved to 25-point sets from 30-point games in 2008. ESU is in action today on the road at #10 Nebraska-Kearney. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
