A strong rushing attack helped the Chase County Bulldogs prevail in a 52-30 victory over Oswego at the Oswego Football Field.
Chase County did not surrender the lead all night. Wyatt Griffin found Tag Groh for a 40-yard touchdown pass to get the Bulldogs on the board with 10:28 left in the first quarter.
Oswego answered right back with 8:13 left in the quarter, but Chase County struck in a hurry with a Luke Budke 11-yard touchdown run making it 16-8 with 6:06 left in the first quarter.
The closest Oswego got was two points with 9:40 left in the second. Chase County extended their lead to eight with 6:02 left in the first half as Wyatt Griffin found Brock Griffin for a 5-yard touchdown reception.
Momentum swung towards the Bulldogs to start the second half as they recovered an onside kick and scored 54 seconds later with Brock Griffin with a 5-yard touchdown run.
Griffin added touchdowns of 64, 27, and 37 to finish with 193 yards rushing on 13 carries and 54 receiving yards on three catches and a score.
Chase County finished with 370 yards of total offense with 233 on the ground.
Coach Derick Budke was pleased with how his guys responded with adjustments at halftime.
Chase County is now 6-3 on the season. They’ll play at Moundridge next Friday in the regional round of the 8-Man Division I playoffs.
