More details have come to light about Friday’s fatality crash west of Emporia.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash on US Highway 50 near Chase County YY Road involved a westbound car and an eastbound semi. The car apparently crossed the center line and hit the semi head-on just after 6 am.
Chase County Sheriff Jacob Welsh has said two people in the car, 29-year-old Maria Munoz Alonso of Kansas City, Kansas, and a juvenile passenger, were killed. The semi driver, 53-year-old Samuel Strubhar of Lyons, was not hurt.
US Highway 50 was either partially or completely closed for over six hours after the crash. It reopened before 1 pm.
