The Emporia State volleyball team rallied to win the third set and prolong the match but could not pull it off again in the fourth in a 25-21, 25-19, 13-25, 25-21 defeat at Northwest Missouri State on Saturday afternoon in Maryville, Mo. The Lady Hornets fell behind early in the first and cut the deficit to one multiple times but could not lead before Northwest ended the set on a 6-3 run. ESU rallied again to trail by one in the second set but Northwest found a 6-1 run to take a 2-0 lead. ESU dominated in the third hitting .360 to Northwest’s .121 to stay in the match, but couldn’t keep up in the fourth as the Bearcats closed out the win. Junior outside hitter Sandora Sasaki tallied double-digit kills in the 24th consecutive match to start the season and her career with 17. ESU is off until Friday when they return to White Auditorium to host Pittsburg State. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
