One of Emporia’s fastest-growing annual events managed to bring a lot of warmth and excitement to the downtown corridor on what was a cold and damp day Saturday.
The fifth annual Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, celebration was held on Commercial Street through the late morning and early afternoon hours beginning with the traditional downtown parade. Since first taking place in Emporia Dia de los Muertos has been and continues to be one of the most popular events put on in partnership by Emporia Main Street and Hispanics Of Today and Tomorrow each year.
Gloria Jurado of HOTT says this is likely due in large part to the high level of inclusivity it promotes and also the importance of the holiday.
Jurado says there is a tremendous amount of positivity and excitement for Dia de los Muertos each year in Emporia and within the Hispanic community in general. She says when it comes to honoring and remembering the lives of loved ones that is the exact atmosphere you want to have.
