Local voters had the latest opportunity to cast their ballots for the 2023 election with a now-annual offsite voting event in Emporia Saturday.
Election office workers welcomed more than local residents to the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building for the event that follows the start of in-person advanced voting Monday. Lyon County Deputy Clerk Amie Jackson says having as many opportunities to vote is extremely important especially when it comes to local elections like this year.
Jackson says the offsite comes as advance voting numbers have been relatively low thus far.
Jackson tells KVOE News she expects the foot traffic and mail-in ballots will likely pick up in the next week and just before election day. For those who were unable to make it to the off-site event Saturday, advanced voting continues through next week.
In-preson voting will take place from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday and will conclude at noon on Nov. 6 ahead of election day Nov. 7. If you plan to mail your ballot and haven’t requested that paperwork, the deadline is Halloween. For the ballot to be valid, it has to be mailed and postmarked by Election Day.
