Emporia’s Peyton Street waterline improvement project will have several notable changes this week.
City Communications Manager Christine Torrens saays the city’s contractor will open East 12th Avenue to one-lane traffic in both directions near the end of Monday. This leads a number of adjustments:
*The intersection of 12th and Peyton will close for up to three weeks to build a new 16-inch water main at 12th and across Peyton.
*Southbound truck traffic on Peyton from 12th will have to detour to Commercial Street, otherwise known as Kansas Highway 99, while 12th and Peyton is closed.
*Drivers along East 12th in the project zone are told to expect lane shifts and a drop of the center turn lane.
*Truck detours will be in effect at times while the project continues into spring 2024.
*There will also be water main and service line connections that will cause short-term impacts to businesses and residents in the work zone.
