With a little less than a week to go before they depart for the nation’s capital, members of the latest USD 252 Honor Flight contingent had a chance to get to know one another Monday evening.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1980 hosted a special meet and greet event for both veterans and student guardians who will be a part of the trip that departs next Monday from Olpe at 6 am. Among those making the trip will be Leavenworth resident and Airforce veteran Clayton Robertson.
This will be the first Honor Flight for Robertson who says he has been a longtime supporter of the program.
Also on the trip will be Eureka resident and Army veteran Bob Brown who says he is looking forward to the trip and the opportunity to visit the various memorials. Brown, who served during the Vietnam War, says it is extremely important to have opportunities like Honor Flight which honors the service of all veterans.
This will be the 12th Honor Flight trip for the district and the second this year following the spring trip back in April. This year more than 40 individuals, including 24 pairs of students and veterans, will be making the trip which departs from Olpe at 6 am Monday.
USD 252 Student guardians will be joining KVOE’s Morning Show for a preview of the trip Thursday at 8:20 am.
