The 13th annual Walnut Turkey Day Dash is set to be the final installment of the Emporia tradition.
Walnut Elementary School Principal Jamie Dakin made the announcement as part of a recent interview on KVOE’s Morning Show Monday. Dakin says while the fundraiser may be coming to an end this year, Walnut is planning some new and exciting activities to take its place, however, she did not offer specific details.
As in years past, proceeds from the Turkey Day Dash will go to support the Walnut PTO. Dakin says the dollars generated over the past decade plus by the event have impacted the school in so many ways.
As always, the dash will take place Thanksgiving morning at 7:30 am. Registration is now open up until the race begins with in-person registration taking place beginning at 6:30 am Thanksgiving morning.
The registration fee is $20 or $10 if you are only wanting a t-shirt. Registration must be complete on or before November 9 to guarantee a t-shirt. In addition to the 5K run and walk, the event will also feature the traditional costume contest and medals will be awarded to the top finishers across seven different age groups.
