Young ghouls and goblins were on the hunt for candy on all Hallows Eve Tuesday and there were plenty of locations to get it around Emporia.
Halloween activities began at the David Traylor Zoo with the annual Boo in the Zoo event. In addition to candy, local trick-or-treaters could interact with zoo employees, participate in fun games and activities, ride the Sertoma Club miniature train and even learn a little more about the zoo and its animals.
Zoo Education Coordinator Kelli Proehl says they always try to add a little education on top of the Halloween festivities each year.
More than 1,000 residents came to the zoo over the course of the 90-minute event. While Boo in the Zoo was ongoing, across town Flint Hills Mall was another destination for local trick-or-treaters to fill up on candy.
The mall was hosting its annual Mall-O-Ween event where trick-or-treaters could walk around to various mall merchants and stock up on more candy.
The hunt for sweets didn’t stop there as when the sun went down trick-or-treating activities spilled out into the greater Emporia area into the late evening hours.
