Caregiver support was the main focus of the latest Department of Veteran Affairs update on KVOE’s Morning Show Tuesday.
According to Dominic Bastenelli of VA Eastern Kansas, the VA’s Caregiver Support Program provides a range of benefits including education, training and other forms of support for veteran caregivers across their service area. Bastenlli explains that caregivers are largely defined as the individuals responsible for “attending to the veteran’s treatment plan.”
At this time, Bastenelli says they are serving more than 300 caregivers across the Eastern Kansas region. He adds, the passage of recent legislation, specifically the Mission Act of 2018, has allowed the VA to successfully expand the availability of caregiver resources through the VA Caregiver Support program.

The event will take place November 28th beginning with the Resource Fair in the morning hours which is focused on providing information for caregivers before the summit which is focused more on community partnerships in the afternoon hours. To register for the fair and summit visit Eventbrite.com.
