So far, so good as Emporia city crews renovate two parking lots in downtown.
Work has been underway for a few weeks in the 700 block of Mechanic. Already, crews have removed the existing pavement and installed storm sewer infrastructure. City Engineer Jim Ubert says Kansas Gas is making some adjustments during this part of the overall project.
Rock subgrade work is ahead before pacing the lot, alley and breezeway by the end of the year.
The lot in the 600 block could well start early next year. The goal is to finish the entire project by spring 2024, ahead of Unbound Gravel activities in late May and early June.
This project will — obviously — affect parking for winter events at White Auditorium.
