Work continues to reopen northbound traffic on the Kansas Turnpike after a reported injury crash just southwest of the Emporia gate Wednesday morning.
A crash involving as many as three vehicles was reported at mile marker 126 around 6:20 am, but Emporia Fire Capt. Ben Lienemann says there were two wrecks at that location — a car-deer crash and a separate wreck involving two vehicles. Lienemann says emergency responders observed two people at the site of the car-deer crash and neither accepted ambulance trips to a hospital. Nobody was reported as injured at the second wreck.
The Kansas Turnpike Authority says both northbound lanes remain blocked until further notice. Northbound drivers planning to drive through Chase and Lyon counties — or continue further to the northeast — need to detour at mile marker 92 or the Cassoday exit.
