Formal charges are pending against a man arrested in Chase County this week on suspicion of felony theft and criminal trespass.
The Chase County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were alerted to a person on Burlington Northern Santa Fe property on Old Highway 50 just east of Strong City shortly after 10 am Halloween morning. With help of BNSF Police, deputies determined Miguel Gonzalez, unconfirmed age and unlisted hometown, boarded a train illegally in California, got to Chase County and then started offloading items with the intent to sell them before he was discovered and arrested.
The total value of the items — which Sheriff Jacob Welsh confirmed as tablets, drills, bathroom items and disco lights — is listed at around $9,000.
