The Emporia Arts Council is set to begin its annual exhibition of artwork as part of Emporia’s All Veterans Tribute with a new addition this year.
EAC will be hosting a veterans glass-blowing workshop as part of an all-day event featuring Kansas artist April Lemon who will be bringing her mobile glass unit with her. The workshop will run from 9 am to 8 pm and will overlap with EAC’s veteran artist exhibition opening reception that begins at 4 pm.
Sarah Bullinski of EAC says having art-centered veterans activities on the schedule is important as art, in all circumstances, “has the ability to say what sometimes we cannot.”
Both activities are part of the larger slate of All Veterans Week Tribute activities that officially began Wednesday.
Also part of All Veterans Tribute activities will be the annual Freedom Fest on Saturday at the All Veterans Memorial, 933 South Commercial Street, and Soden’s Grove. The annual Veterans Roundtable discussion is scheduled for Tuesday, November 7 at the ESU Memorial Union Preston Family Room followed by the opening of a new exhibit through the ESU Special Collections and Archives titled “The Civil War in Kansas” on Wednesday, November 8.
All of this leads up to Veterans Day itself next Saturday with activities including the annual parade in downtown Emporia, memorial service and much more. You can find a full schedule of Emporia’s All Veterans Tribute activities online at Visitemporia.com/events.
