October tax collections for Kansas missed estimates.
Governor Laura Kelly says the state had over $685 million in total for the month, but that was nearly $30 million — 4 percent — short of projections and down over 7 percent from October 2022.
Corporate income tax collections beat projections by over 90 percent and the October 2022 total by almost 80 percent at $57.5 million, but individual income tax collections — nearly $300 million — were short of expectations by almost 15 percent and missed the October 2022 mark by almost 17 percent. Revenue Secretary Mark Burghart blames a $50 million increase of individual income tax refunds, related to the SALT Parity Act, as the reason individual income collections were short.
Combined retail sales and compensating use tax receipts, $306 million, were below both estimates and October 2022 income.
