The No. 4 seed Emporia State soccer team scored quick and never looked back in a 3-0 victory over No. 5 seed Northwest Missouri at the ESU Pitch in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Friday afternoon. Hadlie Lowe knocked down a shot just seven minutes into the match on an assist by Abby Bachman. Anna Burnett backed that up with just under 17 minutes to play in the half when she buried a shot on a long assist by Joanie Westcoat. The Lady Hornets put the match out of reach when Mackenzie Dimarco found the back of the net with just over 31 minutes to play on a dish by Ava Smith. Mackenzi Goen played all 90 minutes in goal for ESU and had five saves. Head coach Bryan Sailer said after the match that the team took advantage of the quick start.
Westcoat said that the team was not ready to have their season end.
ESU improved to 10-5-4 with the win and has now won six-straight matches. The Lady Hornets advance to the semifinals to be held at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan. on Thursday. E-State will either face top seed Washburn or No. 8 seed Missouri Western. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
