Several Emporia businesses are getting federal grants for energy efficiency improvements.
The US Department of Agriculture says the following local businesses have obtained federal funds for a range of projects:
*CTB West 15th LLC in Emporia received almost $12,000 to buy and install a nearly 9-kilowatt rooftop solar system. This will replace over 13,000 kilowatt hours of electricity use, or more than 100 percent of the company’s electricity use.
*Town Royal LLC gets a $20,000 grant to buy and install a 15.5-kilowatt photovoltaic system. This will replace almost 24,000 kilowatt hours per year, or nearly half Town Royal’s annual use.
*Blue Water SC LLC in Emporia gets almost $80,000 to buy and install a nearly 70-kilowatt photovoltaic system. This could replace almost 88,000 kilowatt hours per year, nearly 92 percent of the company’s annual use.
*Kress LLC gets a nearly $50,000 grant for a 37-kilowatt photovoltaic system. This will replace almost 56,000 kilowatt hours per year, better than half the company’s annual use.
The grants come as part of the USDA’s Rural Development program. Funds. Besides the energy efficiency projects, funds can also go to renewable energy investments. Over $4.2 million is being spread out across Kansas with this round of funding.
