The Emporia State volleyball team pushed Washburn but couldn’t keep pace late in a 25-15, 21-25, 25-16, 25-18 loss at Lee Arena in Topeka on Monday night. After allowing Washburn to hit .364 in the opening set, the Lady Hornets came back by holding Washburn to just .156 hitting in the second to tie the match, but the Emporia State defense couldn’t slow down their rivals in the third or fourth as Washburn hit over .470 in the last two sets to take the match. Washburn controlled the net by outblocking ESU 9-4 and played well on the back line outdigging E-State 65-47.
