SOS is receiving two sets of grant funding after an announcement by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly on Monday.
SOS is receiving over $60,000 through the Federal Family Violence Prevention and Services Act grant program. This funds domestic violence programs such as shelter, support groups, crisis intervention, help in securing protection orders, transportation and prevention education.
SOS is also receiving over $11,000 through the Federal State Access and Visitation program, which increases access for noncustodial parents with their children while offering services to benefit both parents, including on-site supervision, exchanges, therapeutic supervision and educational parenting classes.
This comes as SOS is starting its annual Holiday Drive. SOS is now in the process of collecting a range of basic needs and holiday gifts, asking residents, businesses or community groups to “adopt” individuals and families for this effort.
Last year, SOS helped nearly 130 people with gifts.
