Cair Paravel’s rushing attack was hard to stop for the Chase County Bulldogs in an 8-man Division I Sectional Friday night in Cottonwood Falls.
The Lions ran for 323 yards en route to a 48-23 victory over the Bulldogs.
Chase County cashed in on an early Cair Paravel fumble as Wyatt Griffin gave the Bulldogs an early 6-0 lead with 10:12 to play in the opening quarter.
Cair Paravel then scored the next 22 points before the Bulldogs got back on the board. Griffin found Tag Groh for a 26-yard touchdown reception with 1:30 left in the first half to make it 22-12. The Lions got a score right before the half to take a 28-12 lead and never looked back.
Chase County got back on the scoreboard with no time left in the third quarter after the Lions scored 16 points with Brock Griffin scoring from 55 yards out.
Cair Paravel added one final touchdown with 18 seconds left. Chase County ended the night with a 29-yard field goal with no time left in the game.
Brock Griffin finished the night with 177 yards rushing on 14 carries and a score.
Chase County coach Derick Budke says he’s proud of the way the Bulldogs battled throughout the season and returning to the sectional round for the third time in four seasons.
Chase County’s season ends with a 7-4 record. Cair Paravel improves to 9-2 and faces Lyndon at Lyndon next Friday.
