During a recent interview on KVOE’s Morning Show, Flint Hills Technical College President Dr. Caron Daugherty referred to the college’s selection as one of the top 150 eligible institutions for the 2025 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence as a true team effort.
The Aspen Prize recognizes colleges that demonstrate “outstanding achievement” in six benchmark areas — teaching and learning, certificate and degree completion, transfer and bachelor’s degree attainment, workforce success, access and equity for students of color and low-income environments. Out of the thousands of institutions that applied for the prize, FHTC is one of seven Kansas institutions to be selected.
This is also the second time the college has earned the distinction in two cycles after making the top 150 back in 2021. At that time, Daugherty had just come on board as FHTC’s new president and says at that time there were a number of conversations surrounding many of the variables assessed as part of the Aspen Prize process.
The winner of the 2025 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence will be unveiled in June of 2025 with the winning institution receiving $1 million.
