More than six years after the murder of Jesus Avila south of Emporia, the final individuals responsible for his death received their sentences during separate hearings in Lyon County District Court Wednesday.
Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde is now set to spend a little less than six years in prison including 61 months for a single count of aggravated robbery and nine months for a count of interference with law enforcement. Meanwhile, Alan Alanis was sentenced to 59 months for aggravated robbery, 32 months for conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and 12 months for arson meaning a total sentence of 103 months or just over 8 years in prison.
As mentioned, Cornejo-Campoverde and Alanis are the final individuals to be sentenced for the 2017 murder of Avila after Andrew Granado received nearly 15 years in prison for his role back in October.
Granado’s sentencing followed a 22-year sentence for Jovan Pecina also in October and more than 50 years for the alleged gunman in the case Samuel Garcia back in August. Armando Nunez received four-plus years back in 2022.
All six individuals were arrested in connection to Avila’s murder back in August of 2021, nearly four years after Avila’s body was found in a burned-out car in a field south of Emporia in September of 2017.
