The lack of rainfall over the past week didn’t affect most of the US Drought Monitor’s weekly map for the KVOE listening area.
Thursday’s update indicates a shrinking of the abnormally dry area. Last week had abnormally dry conditions in northeast Lyon County, the western three-quarters of Osage County and southeast Wabaunsee County. This week’s update now has abnormally dry conditions in northeast Lyon and central Osage counties.
Moderate drought has expanded into those areas from a week ago and still affects parts of central and north Lyon County, including Emporia, as well as most of Osage and Wabaunsee counties.
Severe drought still covers south Lyon County and almost all of Chase, Coffey, Morris and Greenwood counties.
