Newman Regional Health’s proposed zoning code text changes in light of a potential medical facility from Stormont-Vail Health isn’t the only item before the Emporia-Lyon County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission on Tuesday.
In fact, the proposed zoning changes will be the last item of the night, based on the current agenda. Beforehand, Planning Commission members will consider applications to approve a preliminary plat and Planned Unit Development for the Lockwood Heights housing project along West Sixth just west of Stratford. Developers are seeking Reinvestment Housing Incentive District status from the city as they plan to build another 24 homes with that project.
As KVOE News has mentioned several times this month, Stormont-Vail is planning a better than $30 million medical facility, prompting Newman Regional Health to propose several changes to the existing code. If recommended by the Planning Commission and approved later by the Emporia City Commission, the changes would require outside medical entities to specify the nature and extent of services to be provided, the extent of services already being provided and how current services are inadequate for community need.
The Board of Zoning Appeals also has a meeting Tuesday night. The main topic of business will be a variance request for privacy fencing at 1601 East Sixth.
Tuesday’s meeting is at 6 pm at White Auditorium Little Theatre.
