The Salvation Army’s annual kettle campaign got off to a good start Saturday.
The campaign began with a media challenge — and a repeated call for residents, businesses and nonprofits to set aside some time to ring bells and stand at kettles this holiday season. Here’s Salvation Army Capt. Mylie Hadden:
People can sign up for the various kettle locations and choose their times at registertoring.com.
With a $40,000 goal between now and Dec. 23, Hadden says the drive needs to average $1,000 in donations per day to meet goal. The next big “challenge” day is Badges United involving Emporia Fire, Emporia Police and Lyon County deputies Dec. 9.
The media challenge brought in $620. KVOE staffers were at Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply, bringing in over $240. The Emporia Gazette brought in almost $180 at the Walmart pharmacy door. Mytown Media brought in $140 at the Walmart market door. Reading 4-H students generated over $40 at Bluestem.
