An improvement project will close a bridge just north of Emporia for several months.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says a road and bridge improvement project is slated for a bridge on Road J over Troublesome Creek — a project that the Lyon County Highway Department has been working on for years. The bridge will be replaced. There will also be road grading and gravel surfacing as part of the project.
Work hours will be 7 am-5 -pm weekdays and Saturdays if needed. Road J will be closed from Emporia’s 30th Avenue to Road 215 as a result. There will be no marked detour, but traffic will be controlled with barricades and signage.
King Construction of Hesston won the contract with an $800,000 bid. The project could be done in May.
