One area high school football team will be playing for a state championship on Saturday.
Lyndon will take on Wichita County in the 8-Man Division I State Championship game at Fischer Field in Newton. Due to the anticipated winter storm, the kickoff for the game has been moved up to 10:30 a.m. to get teams, spectators, and game personnel home after the game a little sooner due to the heavier snow later in the day on Saturday, according to the Kansas State High School Activities Association. The 8-Man Division II State Championship game will kick off at 2 p.m. also in Newton.
KSHSAA has also moved up state championship games at Hutchinson (3A), Salina (2A), Hays (1A), and Dodge City (6-Man) to Noon.
Emporia’s Welch Stadium will host 6A which features Derby and Gardner-Edgerton with kickoff still scheduled for 1 p.m. 4A in Topeka and 5A in Pittsburg will also kickoff at 1 p.m.
