College sports has developed a new wing at Emporia State, and the community is encouraged to attend an open house to that end this week.
Emporia State’s new esports team will have a community meet-and-greet event Wednesday afternoon, including a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. Nathan Goodwin, Emporia State’s esports coordinator, says esports is treated in much the same way as traditional athletics.
Upwards of 30 students are on Emporia State’s team. Members practice at least six hours per week at a minimum, but Goodwin says many play at least 10-15 hours a week.
The open house will be at Cremer Hall Room 193 from 2-5 pm. Residents can see Emporia State’s new esports arena, as well as the gaming equipment, get more information about the games ESU students play in competition — Overwatch, League of Legends and chess — and they can also play games if they so choose. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
