Formal charges are pending for an Emporia man arrested Monday after an alleged chase in east Emporia.
Police Capt. Ray Mattas says an officer saw 36-year-old Alejandro Lara-Ceja driving a black pickup shortly after 12:30 pm. Mattas says the officer knew Lara-Ceja had outstanding warrants, so the officer tried a traffic stop but Lara-Ceja drove off. The resulting pursuit went at least five minutes in parts of northeast and southeast Emporia before ending in the 600 block of Lakeview.
Lara-Ceja was tasered and arrested.
Regarding the chase, Lara-Ceja was arrested on suspicion of felony flee and elude; possession of marijuana and methamphetamine, both with intent to distribute; possession of paraphernalia and felon in possession of a firearm.
Mattas says Lara-Ceja’s outstanding warrants dealt with bond revocation on charges of criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling, possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, DUI, tampering with electronic monitoring equipment and possessing a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school.
1:40 pm Monday: One arrested in east Emporia following vehicle pursuit and taser deployment Monday afternoon
One person is in custody following a vehicle pursuit in eastern Emporia Monday afternoon.
The pursuit began around 12:30 pm after an Emporia Police Officer initiated a traffic stop in the area of Fourth and East according to Officer Tim Wacker. The suspect vehicle initially complied with the stop before fleeing the scene.
Full pursuit details are pending, however, Wacker says the driver, later identified as Alejandro Lara, age and hometown unavailable, fled east out of Emporia before returning to the city limits. Wacker says the pursuit ended in the 600 block of Lakeview.
Wacker says a taser was deployed and Lara was apprehended. Lara, who has warrants out for his arrest, was examined at the scene and then taken to jail.
Further information including a list of potential charges is currently pending. Wacker says Lara was the only individual in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
No injuries to pedestrians or other motorists were reported.
