Early work is getting started on a bridge just north of Emporia.
Last week, the Kansas Department of Transportation said the bridge replacement process would begin this week for a span on Road J, about 1.5 miles north of the Emporia city limits over Troublesome Creek. The 2000 block of J, immediately south of the work zone, closed Monday and KDOT says the closure zone will actually go from Emporia’s 30th Avenue north to Road 215.
There will be no marked detour, but traffic will be controlled with barricades and signage.
King Construction of Hesston won the contract with an $800,000 bid. The project could be done in May.
