Students at Emporia Middle School have an unscheduled afternoon off.
The school is closing at 1 pm, thanks to a water main break. Emporia Public Works says this involves a fire line that’s outside the main building but still on the school property.
USD 253 Director of Community Relations Lyndel Landgren says students who normally ride the bus home will be picked up for home transport at 1 pm at Emporia High School. Parents who don’t want their children riding home on the bus need to call 620-341-2335 as soon as possible.
Students who don’t normally ride the bus have to be picked up no later than 12:45 pm. Parents and emergency contacts have to go inside the building and provide ID to sign students out.
Students who walk home need to have their parents or guardians call the school to give permission so those students can walk home.
