While formal charges are pending against an Overland Park man and former Emporia State fraternity member accused of distributing several kinds of drugs, the fraternity’s local and national chapters have issued a statement condemning the alleged activity.
Police Capt. Ray Mattas says the arrest Tuesday of Caden Hunt followed nearly a monthlong investigation, starting with the alleged sale of cocaine, LSD and marijuana to officers in early November and continuing through a search warrant served at the local Sigma Tau Gamma house, 1309 Sylvan. Hunt was arrested on suspicion of distributing all three of the narcotics, possession with intent to distribute all three kinds of narcotics and criminal possession of a firearm.
The Sigma Tau Gamma statement says its headquarters “condemns the behaviors demonstrated by a recently expelled member on November 28, 2023, at Emporia State University. Upon learning of the incident, both Sigma Tau Gamma Headquarters and the Delta Chapter responded with swift and immediate action.”
The fraternity statement also says its application to remove Hunt was approved by the Sig Tau chief executive officer within 24 hours of submission. The fraternity says it will work with Emporia State University and local authorities to resolve this situation.
Hunt is awaiting a decision on formal charges through the Lyon County Attorney’s Office.
