Area law enforcement agencies were busy during the annual Thanksgiving holiday enforcement period.
Lyon County deputies reported almost 120 enforcement stops during Thanksgiving Safe Arrival, which ran from Nov. 18-26. Included were 35 speeding citations, 11 other unspecified citations and arrests, eight seatbelt citations and one DUI arrest.
Statewide, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported 621 speed citations and almost 700 speed-related warnings. Troopers also logged 42 seatbelt citations, seven seatbelt warnings, 17 child restraint citations and 18 DUI arrests. Citations and arrests, reported between Nov. 22-26, were both below numbers for 2022 and 2021. Troopers also noted one non-DUI fatal crash and one non-DUI fatality. There were no DUI-related fatality crashes.
