There has been a lot of social media grumblings about Lyon County’s tax situation — first when county commissioners passed the 2024 budget, more recently when tax statements were mailed before Thanksgiving. However, County Commission Chair Rollie Martin says he isn’t hearing a lot of fuss — yet.
Martin commented during the middle of the County Commission’s weekly action session Thursday.
Officially, the county levy went up 4.5 mills from the current-year budget, but some tax statement line items were up at least 10 percent
There have been some questions about the new tax statement layout, thanks to the county’s partnership with a new vendor, but Martin says the new layout is actually an easier read for residents. When they were sent out two weeks ago, the statements also had a special insert detailing how residents can set up their online accounts if they choose to do so. Once the online account is set up, residents can track their information on enoticesonline.com.
First-half payments are due by Dec. 20, although residents can pay in full if they like. The second-half payment is due by May 10, and the full balance is due if residents miss the first-half deadline next month.
In business from Thursday, commissioners approved a quarry conditional use permit as requested by Rock Creek Stone owner Bryan Davis as well as a ArcGIS license purchase through ESRI.
