The season for the Emporia High girls wrestling team started on a high note Saturday in their home invitational at Emporia Middle School.
Emporia High had four individual champions en route to a second-place team finish with 144 points. Manhattan won the team championship with 173.
Junior Heily Batres went 3-0 on the day winning the 105-pound bracket with a 7-2 decision against Jarynn Hockett of Chanute.
Senior Virginia Munoz went 3-0 winning the 140-pound bracket with a 6-2 decision over Alayna Slifer of Manhattan.
Also, winning tournament championships included Yaneli Carranza at 155 and Alexa Castillo at 235.
Mia Rodriguez Esparaza finished second at 170.
Claire Starr (125), Breanna Wolf (145), and Marisol Renteria-Villator (155) each took third in their respective weight classes.
Katina Keosybounheuang (120) and Allison Curtis (100) both took fourth in their respective weight classes.
Chase County’s Kinzie Rogers won the 110-pound bracket with a 3-0 day.
Emporia High will next compete at Great Bend for a two-day tournament on Friday and Saturday.
