Cashless tolling is still on track for the Kansas Turnpike Authority by the middle of next year, but the project recently reached a major milestone.
The Turnpike Authority says crews installed the last overhead gantry, used for reading license plates, at mile marker 151 — four miles north of the Admire exit. The installation was completed in mid-November.
The KTA says this concludes the new toll zone construction part of the project. Installation of new technology equipment is now underway up and down the highway.
Work towards cashless tolling began in 2021.
