A private graveside service is coming at a later date for longtime Emporia doctor Tom Hicks.
Dr. Tim Harris worked alongside Hicks for years. He says Hicks was devoted to his patients — and those patients were devoted to him.
Hicks came to Emporia in 1987 after starting a private practice in Scott City. He then worked in Emporia until he retired in 2014, but he stayed active in a lot of community causes and fundraisers after his retirement.
Hicks was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1953 before moving to Liberal, where he graduated high school. He then attended the University of Kansas, where he received both pharmacy and doctor of medicine degrees.
