Two Colorado residents were hospitalized after their motorcycle collided with a deer near Emporia early Wednesday evening.
According to Lyon County Deputy Jeff Rodriguez, deputies came across the accident while patrolling in the 1800 block of Burlingame Road just before 5:20 pm. Deputies determined that 29-year-old Courtney Dardano of Colorado was traveling northbound on Burlingame Road on a 2020 Honda Rebel when a deer entered the roadway from the west.
The motorcycle impacted the deer and led to what are being called non-life-threatening injuries for Dardano and a passenger, Kristina Knipfer also of Colorado. Emporia/Lyon County EMS responded to the scene and transported both individuals to Newman Regional Health.
Both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

The accident was reported at 5:20 pm in the 1800 block of Burlingame Road. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says two individuals were taken from the scene of the crash with undisclosed injuries to Newman Regional Health.
Names have not been released.
